Trybe developmental playgroups help children learn positive social interaction with other children. Children learn early literacy skills as well as colors, shapes, body parts, counting and sorting. They are also exposed to art, music, gardening, and basic tumbling.
Each playgroup session will begin with welcome and orientation for new families, and open playtime with age appropriate activities. Guided centers with specific sensory, fine motor, art, sorting and counting, or literacy activities will be offered. A circle time with thematic songs, finger play, movement and book reading will follow. A light snack will be provided followed by literacy time where parents and caregivers read to their children. Each session will be concluded with gross motor activities. |
The playgroups help bring households out of isolation and support parents in their child’s development. Caregivers read to their children, sometimes for the first time and bring early literacy practices home.
Parents seek out support and advice from each other, including such topics as the OUSD Options process in enrolling in school. Households begin to connect with the larger community by attending community events such as the Halloween party where the whole family comes out and enjoys the day together, sometimes volunteering for the event. Families access concrete help through the Trybe clothing exchange, which helps families share clothing, toys, furniture, and gear.
