Earth Day, April 23, 2016

Bella Vista to Highland Hospital Peace Walk

Oakland, CA – This Thursday, May 12th, Bella Vista Elementary hosts a peace walk to lift the quality of life, and increase safety and wellness in the neighborhood. Since September 2010, the neighborhood has been devastated with ten murders. Three were fathers. Four grew up in the neighborhood. All ten passed at the County Highland Hospital. The community will honor and remember those that have been plagued by the risk factors of the community (violence, shootings, etc). The names are Raymen Justice, Marquis Woolfolk, Thorn Nhep, Rafael Garcia, Clifford Snead, Innocent Okoronkwo, and Jacob Velaquez. The peace walk is a platform for local residents to come together to create a better community for the children and families using a strength-based framework. After the peace walk, the community will celebrate the pending installation of new school playground, a protective factor for a community that has been plagued by so many risk factors and lives lost

Earth Day, Saturday, April 23, 2016, 9am-noon

A service day with Trybe youth interns and the Bella Vista Safety Patrol. Our youth have spent some time training on how waste effects the Bay and will be presenting for 10 minutes, educating children in what waste does to our environment. We are reaching out to Spanish speakers.

We will also be cleaning and beautifying the Bella Vista school garden and the park. Project supported in part by the Clean Water Program.

Peace Walks

Trybe has partnered with schools and community groups to lead Peace Walks to reconnect the community after violence.

Halloween at Bella Vista Park

Annually since 2008, Trybe has hosted a Halloween Event in Bella Vista Park, with over 800 children, families and neighborhood folk coming out to celebrate and be together for food, performances, bouncehouses, and trick-or-treating.
