Summer Camp: Frequently Asked Questions

What is Drop-In Camp?

Drop-In Camp means there is no commitment to attend every day. Come on the days that work best for your family!

Do I need to register?

No pre-registration required. On your child's first day, we'll have you complete a quick registration form and waiver so we have everything we need on file.

Can I guarantee my child a spot?

Yes. Drop-In Camp is open to all kids who are Oakland residents. There is no pre-registration, but we recommend all parents fill out an interest form to help Trybe prepare enough spots for each activity and order lunches and supplies.  There are no waitlists or sign-up windows to worry about, but each family will have to sign up on the first day you come to camp. Then just come on the days that work for you, and we’ll sign you and/or your child(ren) in each day

How much does camp cost?

Camp is completely free!

Why is camp free?

Trybe believes every child deserves access to a high-quality summer experience regardless of their family's financial situation. Our programs are funded through community partnerships and grants so that cost is not a barrier.

Who can attend? What are the age ranges?

Drop-In Camp is open to children ages 0–14.

For families with children under 6, we require a parent or guardian to stay for the duration of the session.

What will my child be doing at camp?

This summer's theme is Bug adventures. Your child will be immersed in hands-on activities, games, arts and crafts, and learning experiences, all tied to our theme. Free meals are also provided daily.

Activities:
  • Roller-skating
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Futsal/Soccer
  • Arts/Crafts
  • Cooking

Are activities different for different age groups?

Yes. Activities are designed to be age-appropriate so that every child is engaged and challenged at their level. There will be children of different ages at each activity but there will be enough staff and youth interns to help “differentiate” the teaching (different learning and skill levels)

Where is camp located?

San Antonio Park, Trybe Courts, 1645 18th Ave Oakland, CA 94606

What is parking and drop-off like?

1st Day: Park on 18th Ave or Foothill and walk you and your child to the registration table at 1845 Foothill Blvd. Street Sweeping is on Wednesday afternoon, July 1st

After 1st Day: Pull up next to Trybe Sport Courts and drop off your child in between the coned area. Trybe Ambassadors and Interns will be helping with the flow of traffic and safety. Please do not double park and leave your vehicle
